Installing the CMST ABS body kit on a 2024-on Zeekr 001 is a bolt-on and clip-on process that requires no permanent modification to the OEM bodywork — a typical home installer with basic hand tools can complete the full three-piece fit in three to four hours. The kit includes a front lip, side skirts (pair), and rear lip, each tooled specifically to the 24-on Zeekr 001 body revision. This guide covers surface prep, fitting sequence, adhesive application, and post-install alignment checks.
- Vehicle: Zeekr 001 (2024-on)
- Kit: CMST ABS front lip, side skirts, rear lip
- Difficulty: Beginner–Intermediate
- Estimated time: 3–4 hours (including surface prep and adhesive cure)
- Permanent modification: None required
Tools and Consumables Required
- 10 mm and 8 mm socket with ratchet (for underbody undertray clips)
- Plastic pry tool / trim removal tool (for existing sill clips)
- Torx T20 screwdriver (some 001 bumper screws)
- Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) 70%+ and microfibre cloths — for degreasing bonding surfaces
- 3M 08008 or equivalent automotive-grade double-sided bonding tape (12 mm wide)
- Masking tape (50 mm wide) — for dry-fit alignment marking
- Cable ties or ratchet straps — to hold pieces in position during adhesive set
- Heat gun or warm water — to activate tape adhesive in temperatures below 15°C
- Trim clips (OEM Zeekr part or CMST-supplied equivalents) — count varies by piece
Before You Start: Preparation
Work in a covered space out of direct sunlight. ABS expands slightly in heat; fitting in shade ensures the piece geometry matches what CMST tooled. Temperature should ideally be between 15°C and 30°C — below this range the bonding tape loses initial tack and requires pre-warming.
Wash the vehicle thoroughly, paying attention to the lower bumper sections, sill areas, and rear bumper valance. Any road grime or wax left on the bonding surface will reduce adhesion significantly. After washing, wipe all contact surfaces with isopropyl alcohol on a clean microfibre cloth and allow to evaporate fully (approximately two minutes) before applying tape.
Dry-fit every piece before removing any tape backing. Hold each component in its final position and confirm: the mounting clips align with OEM holes, no edge lifts away from the body at rest, and the gap between the aero piece and the OEM panel is consistent end-to-end. Mark the position with masking tape tabs if needed. Only once the dry fit is confirmed should you move to adhesive application.
Step 1 — Front Lip Installation
The front lip is the most critical piece for alignment because any offset is immediately visible at the centre line. Begin with the car on level ground so the suspension sits at ride height rather than at bump or droop.
Lower the undertray forward section — on the Zeekr 001, three 8 mm bolts and several push-pin clips retain the forward undertray panel. Lowering it gives access to the rear face of the lower bumper and the factory front-lip mounting points.
Apply a continuous bead of 3M automotive bonding tape along the rear contact face of the CMST front lip — the surface that will press against the OEM lower bumper. Do not remove the backing yet. Offer the lip up to the bumper, locate the OEM mounting tabs through the corresponding holes in the CMST piece, and secure with the provided push-in clips. Start at the centre and work outward in alternate directions — centre, left 30 cm, right 30 cm — rather than from one end, which would introduce a bow.
Once clipped and aligned to your satisfaction, peel the bonding tape backing from one end and press firmly from centre to edge. Dwell-press each section of tape for 30 seconds — sustained pressure is more effective than quick pressing. Refit the undertray forward section.
Do not apply lateral stress to the lip for 24 hours; the full bond strength of automotive double-sided tape develops over this period.
Step 2 — Side Skirts Installation
Side skirts on the Zeekr 001 fit to the lower sill moulding, which runs the full length of the door apertures. The OEM sill moulding is retained — the CMST skirt clips over and bonds to it rather than replacing it.
Remove any loose factory sill trim clips that protrude beyond the sill moulding face — these will prevent the CMST skirt from seating flat. Use the plastic pry tool; avoid metal tools that can scratch the paint on the door lower edges.
Apply bonding tape in three strips along the inner face of the CMST skirt: top edge, bottom edge, and centre. This triangulated pattern prevents a visible bow across the skirt length over time. Apply a thin bead of Sika Flex 252 or equivalent at the forward and rearward ends to seal the joint against water ingress.
Offer the skirt up from below, aligning the forward end flush with the front bumper's rear edge. Clip the retaining clips along the sill and press the bonding tape home section by section. A second person is helpful for maintaining pressure along the full length. Repeat for the opposite side, then check both skirts measure identically from the ground at forward, centre, and rearward points.
Step 3 — Rear Lip Installation
The rear lip installs below the OEM rear bumper valance. The two 10 mm underside bolts and valance trim clips do not need to be removed unless you are simultaneously fitting a rear diffuser. Apply bonding tape to the contact face, locate the CMST tabs through the bumper holes, and push-clip centre-out. Press the tape home along the full length. The 001 rear lip is shallower than the front lip — its retention relies more on the mechanical clips, which is correct for the piece geometry. Check from directly behind that the lip is parallel to the ground and does not sag; adjust within the first 15 minutes before the tape sets.
Post-Install Checks and Alignment
Once all three pieces are fitted, pull the vehicle forward 3–4 metres and walk around it at distance to check for any visible asymmetry. The front lip should read as a natural downward extension of the bumper — if one end rides higher, the clip on that side has not fully seated and needs to be pressed home. Side skirts should have a consistent gap (or no gap) relative to the lower door edge along their full length. The rear lip should be parallel to the rear bumper lower edge.
Check under the vehicle that all undertray clips are refitted and that no bonding tape backing paper has been left inside the body panels — these can rattle.

Maintenance After Installation
ABS body kit pieces require no specialist maintenance beyond regular washing. Avoid high-pressure washing directed at the tape bond lines in the first week. Do not use solvent-based protectants on bonding tape seam edges — these degrade the adhesive. A water-based plastic trim restorer every three months maintains the matte black finish if running the pieces raw. If a clip works loose, re-clip while pressing the tape area firmly — tape retains adhesion through multiple clip cycles provided the surface stays clean.
FAQ
Does the CMST ABS kit fit both the long-range and performance variants of the 2024 Zeekr 001?
Yes. The CMST ABS body kit fits all 2024-on Zeekr 001 variants — the exterior body and bumper geometry is shared across drivetrain configurations. Confirm your model year is 2024 or later, as the body revision changed the front bumper profile.
Can I install the front lip without lowering the undertray?
Technically possible but not recommended. Lowering the undertray section gives access to the rear-face mounting points and makes it far easier to achieve a flush fit at the centre. Without access, you risk misaligning the centre clips and ending up with a visible gap or bow.
What temperature do I need for the bonding tape to work properly?
3M automotive bonding tape requires a minimum surface temperature of around 15°C for full initial tack. In cooler Australian climates (including Melbourne winters or highland areas), use a heat gun on low setting to warm the contact surface to 20°C before removing the tape backing and pressing.
How long before I can wash the car after fitting the kit?
Allow 24 hours before washing. The bonding tape reaches working strength within an hour but achieves full peel resistance after 24 hours. Avoid any water contact on the seam lines during this period.
