CMST Honda Civic FK7 Carbon Widebody Build

White Honda Civic FK7 hatch wearing the CMST carbon-fibre widebody kit with Type R-style rear wing, front three-quarter low angle

This is a CMST carbon-fibre widebody build on a 2021 Honda Civic FK7 hatch, turning the standard 1.5-litre turbo car into a "mini Type R" with a full carbon aero package. The build pairs dry-carbon panels — front lip, fenders, side skirts, rear lip, bonnet and a Type R-style three-piece rear wing — with an 8-piece FRP rear wheel-arch set, finished with red accent decals to sharpen the white bodywork. It is a styling-led conversion that borrows the FK8 Type R visual language for the lower, broader-tracked FK7.

  • Vehicle: 2021 Honda Civic FK7 hatch (tenth-generation, 1.5T)
  • Material options: Dry carbon fibre (lip, fenders, skirts, rear lip, bonnet, wing) and FRP (rear arches)
  • Key pieces: Front lip, carbon fenders (pair), side skirts, 8-piece rear arches, rear lip, three-piece rear wing, carbon bonnet
  • Finish: Gloss twill carbon weave plus forged-pattern carbon on the wing, with red accent decals
  • Look: Type R-inspired widebody stance on the FK7 hatch

The build: a "mini Type R" FK7

The tenth-generation Civic hatch is a sharp base to start from. Its 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and willing chassis give it genuine pace, but the standard FK7 looks tame next to the FK8 Civic Type R. CMST's answer is to dress the FK7 in a carbon aero kit that echoes the Type R without trying to copy it part-for-part — a lower, wider, more aggressive stance that still reads as a clean factory-plus build rather than a parts-bin mash-up.

The donor car here is finished in white with a carbon bonnet and red accent decals, riding on bronze multi-spoke wheels with a centre-exit triple-exhaust look at the rear. The contrast of white paint, bare carbon weave and red detailing is deliberate: it keeps the eye moving across the lip, skirts and wing rather than letting the car read as a single block of colour. If you are planning a similar Civic project, AME stocks the full CMST range to base it on.

The full parts list

The kit on this car is a complete front-to-back package. Laid out, it covers every visible exterior surface that defines the stance:

  • Front lip — dry carbon, extends and sharpens the lower front bumper
  • Front fenders (pair) — dry carbon with integrated vents
  • Side skirts (pair) — dry carbon, lowers the visual ride height along the sills
  • Rear wheel arches (8-piece) — FRP, widens the rear track visually
  • Rear lip — dry carbon, wraps the lower rear bumper
  • Rear wing (three-piece) — forged-pattern carbon, Type R-style raised aerofoil
  • Bonnet — dry carbon, replaces the steel item

Because the kit is supplied as discrete pieces, the build can be staged. You can start with the parts that change the car most — the front lip and fenders — and add the skirts, arches, rear lip and wing over time. The Honda Civic body kit collection lists the components individually for exactly this reason.

Front lip and carbon fenders

The front lip is the first thing the eye lands on. In dry carbon, it extends below the factory bumper to deepen the nose and add the under-chin shadow that makes the car look planted. Working with it are the carbon front fenders, which replace the steel guards. As well as showing the weave along the car's shoulder line, the fenders carry vent detailing that helps the FK7 mimic the broader, more vented look of the Type R front end.

Side skirts and rear arches

Along the flanks, the dry-carbon side skirts visually drop the car towards the road and tidy the airflow between the wheels. The 8-piece FRP rear arch set is what gives the build its widebody character: fibreglass forms the deep, flared arch curves more economically than autoclaved carbon, and because the arches are painted to match the body anyway, FRP is the sensible material choice. Together the skirts and arches give the FK7 a wider, more purposeful stance from the side.

Rear lip and Type R-style wing

At the back, the carbon rear lip wraps the lower bumper and frames the exhaust, pulling the tail visually closer to the road. Above it sits the headline piece: a three-piece rear wing in forged-pattern carbon, profiled in the spirit of the FK8 Type R's raised wing. Unlike a subtle ducktail, a raised wing sits in cleaner air above the boot and gives the FK7 the same unmistakable rear silhouette that makes the Type R so recognisable. You can see the same shapes in the CMST spoiler for Honda range.

Before and after: how the kit changes the FK7

The standard FK7 is a handsome but restrained hatch. Three changes do most of the visual work in this build. First, ride height and stance: the skirts and arches drop and widen the car's apparent footprint, so it sits rather than perches. Second, surface texture: the carbon bonnet, lip, fenders, skirts and wing break up the white paint with bare weave, which adds depth and stops large panels looking flat. Third, the rear signature: the three-piece wing changes the car's profile from the back more than any other single part, which is exactly why it reads as a "mini Type R" in the mirror.

The red accent decals are the finishing touch. Used sparingly, they tie the white paint to the red Honda badge tradition and add a motorsport cue without overwhelming the carbon. The result is a car that looks built to a theme rather than modified piece by piece.

Owner takeaways for an FK7 build

A few practical points are worth keeping in mind if you want to replicate this car:

  • Carbon is for show and weight, FRP is for shape. The dry-carbon panels save weight and show the weave; the FRP arches exist to form the wide shapes affordably and are meant to be painted.
  • Plan the wheel and tyre package with the arches. The wider arches change tyre-to-guard clearance, so set wheel offset, tyre width and ride height so the tyre clears through full suspension travel.
  • Protect the clearcoat. Exposed carbon weave is held under a clearcoat that fades with prolonged UV, so undercover parking and a UV-stable coating keep it looking fresh.
  • Stage the build. Start with the front lip and fenders for the biggest immediate change, then add skirts, arches and wing as budget allows.

Frequently asked questions

Does this CMST kit fit the FK7 or only the Type R?

This is a kit for the FK7 Honda Civic hatch — the 1.5-litre turbo car, not the FK8 Type R. It is styled to give the FK7 a Type R-inspired look using its own dry-carbon and FRP pieces. Always confirm your exact model year and that your car is the FK7 hatch before ordering.

What is the rear wing made from?

The three-piece rear wing on this build is finished in a forged-pattern carbon, while the rest of the headline panels are dry-carbon twill. The raised wing is styled along the lines of the FK8 Civic Type R wing to give the FK7 a similar rear profile.

Are the wheel arches carbon or FRP?

The 8-piece rear arch set is FRP (fibreglass-reinforced plastic), not carbon. FRP forms the deep flared arch shapes more economically and is designed to be painted to match the body colour, so it is the right material for the widebody pieces while the show panels stay in carbon.

Can I buy the parts separately?

Yes. The kit is built from discrete components — front lip, fenders, side skirts, arches, rear lip, wing and bonnet — so you can stage the build. The CMST fenders for Honda and other Honda-specific collections list the pieces individually.

Do I need the red decals?

No. The red accent decals are a styling choice on this particular car, chosen to lift the white paint and nod to Honda's red badge. The kit works in bare carbon over any body colour, and you can specify your own accent scheme.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
