How to Fit the CMST Li Auto MEGA Body Kit

بواسطة AME Motorsport 01 Jul 2026

Fitting the CMST Li Auto MEGA body kit is a bolt-on and bonded job covering a front lip, side skirts and a rear lip, and on a vehicle this large it is best done by two people with the car on a hoist or level pad. The kit uses a mix of the MEGA's factory screw points, automotive double-sided tape and a bead of panel-bonding adhesive, so the work is less about cutting and more about careful alignment, surface prep and patience. This guide walks through the tools, time and step sequence to fit it cleanly.

  • Vehicle: Li Auto (Li Xiang) MEGA MPV
  • Kit pieces: front lip, side skirts (multi-piece per side), rear lip
  • Fitment type: bolt-on plus bonded (factory screws, double-sided tape, panel adhesive)
  • Difficulty: moderate — alignment-critical rather than technically hard
  • Time: allow roughly half a day with two people and careful prep

Before you start: tools and preparation

Gather the kit and check every piece against the car before any adhesive comes out. You will want: a trim-removal set, the appropriate screwdriver and socket bits for the MEGA's factory fasteners, a panel-bonding or windscreen-grade adhesive plus the matching primer, automotive double-sided tape (if not pre-applied), isopropyl alcohol or a wax-and-grease remover, a heat gun, masking tape, a tape measure and a clean microfibre cloth. Because the MEGA is a long, tall vehicle, working on a hoist or a flat, level surface makes alignment far easier, and a second person is genuinely needed to hold long sections while you set them.

Wash the car and let it dry fully. Body kits bond to clean paint, not to road film, so wipe down every mating surface with isopropyl alcohol immediately before fitting each piece. Fit the kit in mild, dry conditions — adhesives and tape grip poorly in the cold or wet, and a warm panel helps the bond cure. Dry-fit each piece first, with masking tape holding it in place, so you can confirm the gaps and screw-hole alignment before committing.

Step 1: Front lip

Start at the nose. Offer the front lip up to the bumper and check it follows the bumper's lower edge evenly on both sides, using masking tape to hold it while you mark the position. Confirm that any factory screw holes line up; the MEGA's lower bumper typically retains some original screws that the lip locates to. Once you are happy with the position, clean the mating area, apply primer where specified, remove the backing from the double-sided tape and add a few dabs of panel adhesive for a permanent hold. Press the lip into place from the centre outward to avoid trapping air, then refit the original lower screws to lock the position while the adhesive cures.

Step 2: Side skirts

The side skirts come as a multi-piece set per side so they can follow the MEGA's long sills accurately. Work one side at a time. Dry-fit the skirt sections along the sill and open the relevant door so you can reach the upper mounting edge — two people make this far easier, with one holding the skirt aligned while the other checks the gap to the door and arch. Mark the position, then prep the surface with primer, remove the tape backing and set the skirt, pressing along its length so the tape grips evenly. Refit any factory sill screws, and note that the sections nearest the wheel arches usually take an additional self-tapping screw underneath to hold the ends down. Repeat on the other side, matching the height and gap to the first.

Step 3: Rear lip

The rear lip is the most involved piece because it interacts with the rear bumper and, on the MEGA, with the tail-light wiring if your lip includes an integrated light. Begin by removing the original lower rear-bumper screws and, if needed, opening the boot to access the inner trim. Dry-fit the rear lip to confirm it sits square to the bumper and the gaps are even. If the lip carries a light, route its wiring neatly along the existing loom path and connect it to the rear light feed, testing that it works before final fitting. Then clean and prime the mating surface, apply the tape and adhesive bead, and press the lip home from the centre outward. Refit the original screws and add the supplied self-tapping screws where specified to secure the lower edge.

Fitment tips and cautions

A few points make the difference between a tidy fit and a poor one. Dry-fit everything first — once tape and adhesive touch primed paint, you do not get a second attempt at position. Prep is non-negotiable: any grease or wax left on the panel will cause the bond to lift later, so clean each surface right before fitting. Mind the ground clearance the front lip adds; the MEGA is tall but the lip still lowers the front edge, so set it at a sensible height and warn the driver about steep driveways and speed humps. Let the adhesive cure fully before washing the car or driving in the rain — overnight is a safe minimum. Finally, because the MEGA's panels are large, take your time with alignment; small errors at one end become visible gaps at the other.

Professional fitment in Australia

This kit is fittable by a competent DIY owner, but the size of the MEGA, the bonded installation and the rear-lip wiring mean many owners prefer professional fitment for a guaranteed finish. A workshop will dry-fit, prep and bond each piece with the right primers, set even gaps, and handle any light wiring cleanly. If you would rather have it done for you, our team can help arrange fitment and advise on care.

FAQ

How is the CMST MEGA kit attached?

It uses a combination of the MEGA's factory screw points, automotive double-sided tape and a panel-bonding adhesive, with extra self-tapping screws at the skirt and rear-lip ends. It is a bolt-on and bonded fit rather than a cut-and-weld job.

Can I fit it myself, or do I need a workshop?

A confident DIY owner with the right tools and a level workspace can fit it, ideally with a second person to hold the long sections. That said, the MEGA's size, the adhesive process and the rear-lip wiring lead many owners to choose professional fitment for a guaranteed finish.

How long does installation take?

Allow roughly half a day with two people, including careful dry-fitting, surface prep and clean-up. Rushing the alignment or the surface preparation is the most common cause of poor results, so build in time rather than working against the clock.

Does the rear lip need wiring?

Only if your rear lip includes an integrated light. If it does, route the wiring along the existing loom path, connect it to the rear light feed and test it before bonding the lip in place. A plain rear lip with no light simply screws and bonds on.

How soon can I wash the car after fitting?

Let the adhesive cure fully before washing or driving in the rain — overnight is a safe minimum, and longer is better in cool weather. Washing too soon can disturb the bond before it has reached full strength.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
