CMST Volkswagen Golf MK7 Widebody Kit: Parts & Fitment

par AME Motorsport 01 Jul 2026

The CMST Volkswagen Golf MK7 widebody kit converts the seventh-generation Golf into a full wide-arch build using FRP wheel arch extensions, a redesigned FRP front bumper with integrated carbon front lip and carbon grille, carbon rear lip, FRP side skirts with carbon lower lips, an acrylic-centre carbon bonnet, and a three-piece carbon rear wing. Ten FRP widebody wheel arch flares are riveted to the front and rear fenders, giving the MK7 a stance that requires matching wheel and tyre fitment to fill the extended arches. The kit was introduced at CMST's 2017 new product showcase.

  • Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf MK7 (2012–2020, all variants including GTI and R)
  • Fitment: MK7 Golf body — shape-specific; confirm front bumper profile before ordering
  • Materials: FRP for front bumper, side skirts (body), and 10-piece wheel arch widebody flares; carbon fibre for front lip, grille, side skirt lower lips, bonnet centre section, rear lip, and 3-piece rear wing
  • Key pieces: FRP front bumper (with carbon front lip + carbon grille), carbon rear lip, FRP side skirt 4-piece (with carbon lower lips), acrylic-centre carbon bonnet (Style B), FRP widebody arch flares (10 pieces), 3-piece carbon rear wing
  • Finish: FRP supplied in primer; carbon pieces gloss clear-coated with 2×2 twill weave; bonnet centre section in clear acrylic

Front Bumper: Redesigned Profile with Carbon Grille

The CMST front bumper replaces the stock MK7 item with a wider, lower FRP unit. Its defining feature is the large hexagonal mesh carbon fibre grille spanning the full centre aperture — a standalone carbon piece bolted into the FRP shell, not a painted insert. The honeycomb cell size allows unrestricted airflow to the radiator without the factory's separate upper/lower grille split.

Below the grille, a carbon front lip connects to the bumper via two carbon stay rods — a direct reference to GT3 splitter mounting. The hardware is genuine carbon rod; the large outer apertures are unobstructed, improving frontal airflow over the stock Golf fascia.

Rear Lip / Rear Diffuser

The carbon rear lip installs directly onto the factory rear bumper — it is an add-on piece rather than a full rear bumper replacement. This is a practical choice for MK7 owners who want carbon aero at the rear without replacing the entire rear fascia. The rear lip features a centred LED brake light unit integrated into the carbon panel, which serves both as a safety feature and a visual separator between the rear diffuser blades. The three-channel diffuser structure below the light is carbon fibre throughout, with blade geometry that creates a visual low-pressure channel across the rear lower bumper.

Side Skirts with Carbon Lower Lips

The side skirt assembly is a 4-piece FRP set with carbon fibre lower lip blades. The carbon blade runs flush with the bottom of the door sill, providing a low-profile contrast detail at the car's lowest visible line, while the FRP body offers a paint-ready surface for body-colour matching. Skirts attach to the OEM sill clips with supplementary industrial tape on the lower edge. Explore the CMST Volkswagen bumper and side skirt range for individual piece options.

The Widebody Arch Flares

The defining element of this kit is the 10-piece FRP widebody wheel arch flare set. Five flares per side cover the front and rear wheel arches, mounted in the riveted "bolt-on" style — flush rivets are set through the flare lip into the OEM fender, leaving the fixing points visible as a deliberate styling element. This is the same mounting method used on many factory widebody homologation vehicles and does not require cutting or replacing the OEM fenders.

Ten flares add approximately 30–40 mm per side of arch width, opening fitment for 9J–9.5J wide wheels that would otherwise foul the stock guards. FRP is the right material for arch flares: it flexes under car-park contact rather than shattering and can be repainted after minor kerbing damage.

Acrylic-Centre Carbon Bonnet (Style B)

The bonnet offered with this kit is one of CMST's most visually distinctive pieces: a carbon fibre bonnet with a transparent acrylic panel in the centre section. The acrylic replaces what would normally be a solid carbon or painted-FRP bonnet centre, creating a window into the engine bay — the effect is unique to CMST's Golf MK7 kit and immediately identifies the build as a CMST installation. The surrounding bonnet skin is standard 2×2 twill carbon fibre under a gloss clearcoat.

For Australian owners: the acrylic transmits solar heat into the engine bay more than an opaque bonnet. At highway speeds this is not an issue — airflow keeps the bay ventilated. On hot summer track days or in slow traffic the underbonnet temperature will run marginally higher. If summer track use is frequent, an opaque carbon bonnet is the more conservative choice. Three-Piece Carbon Rear Wing

The rear wing is a three-piece carbon assembly: main blade and two upright supports. The blade runs at a lower rake than CMST's GT wings on other platforms — proportioned to suit the Golf's hatchback roofline without extending above the roof. The carbon blade is rigid enough to hold its angle of attack without end-plate bracing, keeping the bootlid mounting footprint compact. Mounting uses the OEM spoiler bolt points; the wing is available individually from the CMST Volkswagen wing collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the CMST widebody kit fit the Golf GTI MK7 and Golf R MK7?

Yes. All Golf MK7 variants share the same body panel mounting points for bumpers, arch flares and sills. GTI models with a specific lower grille surround should confirm front bumper compatibility before ordering.

What wheel size do I need to fill the widebody arches?

The 10-piece FRP flares add approximately 30–40 mm per side, opening fitment for 9J–9.5J wide wheels at ET20–ET30 offset in 18 or 19-inch diameter. Confirm exact sizing with a wheel specialist after fitting the flares.

How are the arch flares attached?

Flush rivets set through the flare lip into the OEM fender, with the rivet heads visible as a styling element. No fender cutting required. A body shop can remove the flares and fill the holes if returning the car to standard, though fender respray would be needed.

Does the acrylic-centre bonnet cause heat issues in Australian conditions?

On normal road use, airflow at speed keeps the engine bay cool. In heavy summer traffic or on track days, underbonnet temperatures run marginally higher than with an opaque bonnet. For frequent summer track use, an opaque carbon bonnet is the more practical choice.

Is the rear lip an add-on or a full rear bumper replacement?

It is an add-on. The CMST carbon rear lip bolts to the factory rear bumper's lower fascia without replacing it. The integrated LED brake light is part of the carbon panel.

Are the FRP parts supplied painted?

No. FRP pieces are supplied in primer for body-colour painting. Carbon pieces arrive finished under a gloss clearcoat with exposed carbon weave.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
